Favorite Covers/Bandshots/Hairdos

Post by myrrh »

Do you have any band where the visual part has played a big role in you liking them?
Whether it be album cover or a group shot, a good hairdo whatever really.
Im just interested in hearing other peoples opinions on this.
No matter how much I want it to not matter, it really does.
For me The Byrds are maybe the coolest looking band ever :

this scared the shit out of 12 year me:

And this made me realize that it was gonna be a good one even before I had heard a note( also the last good one in my opinion):

It is not why I like them, as their music rules, but I always found Bryan Ferry visually mesmerizing.

Can't have this thread without mentioning The White Stripes. They had a veeeeeery dedicated visual thang.

Then again, nothing's changed in Jack White Land.

Also his hair....

Then again, any musician/person that can pull off poofy, frizy crazy hair.

Mines all flat and boring.

Also obligatory Sunn O)))

I think aesthetic can be suuuuuuper important for bands
Not my favourite band but I think a lot of deafheaven's success comes from their aesthetic

I'm trying to think of other examples, but I'm drawing blanks at the moment haha, I'll be back

i immediately thought of Austin TV

they have a ridiculous aesthetic

honestly if the music sucks then i couldn't care less about these things but i think it can be a real fun complementary thing, and respect the effort that some people put into it.

Exactly! It should be that little thing that makes a records a little bit better. It is often the first impression you get from a band/records too so it really steers how you percieve it. If MBV didn't have those blurry covers I would probably think of them a bit differently.

What if Kevin Shields dressed in all leather and had monsters on their covers?

This is what made me listen to Boris in the first place and if I hadn't seen this before I don't know if I would have gave them the chance they deserved. Thank goodness I did though as they are one my a favorites now.

Also Keiji Haino has the best mystique around him of anyone I can think of.
