2x12 bass cab. Need speaker suggestions?
Plan to use one of my Emperor 2x12s with an Ampeg V2 and Bass VI. Hope to round it out with a 1x15 in the near future too. Anyone have experience with some 12"s that bring the low end? Something that does well with bass and guitar would be even better, not sure if that's asking too much...

That's what you have/had in your Verellen cab? They have pretty high power handling as well, yeah? Well balanced or really bass heavy sound?skullservant wrote:DELTA PRO 12a ALL DAY
Yeah, being sore does not appeal but I would sacrifice if need be. I'll check into these kappalites as well. Thanks!theavondon wrote:Or, kappalites if you want to like, not be sore.skullservant wrote:DELTA PRO 12a ALL DAY

Re: 2x12 bass cab. Need speaker suggestions?
The Verellen now has the Delta Pro 12a in it. The cab itself is fucking hugely oversized (21x21x16, enough to be a 1x15 cab) which probably adds a decent amount of extra weight, but the speaker itself is pretty heavy. Something like 400-500w handling. I've had 120w into just the single speaker without it breaking a sweat.
I can compare it to the Delta 12LFC which was in the Verellen cab before I installed the 12a, which now resides in this other 1x12 cab that I have. For being a bass speaker, the 12a has a pretty wide and full range. To me, it doesn't sound like a bass speaker like the 12LFC, which whatever you run through it kind of darkens your tone like bass amps do.
The 12a has solid lows, great highs, and it definitely plays well with pedals. Comparing it to this WGS Reaper that I just got about a month ago, it's got more lows and low mids, but not a thumpy or dominating type of low, just a real fullness to the sound. Bold, I guess you could say?

I play since 2 years a 4x12" with two V30 and two Eminence Legend (forget what exactly, sorry) and like it a lot with bass. If i had the funds, i would switch to these: Eminence Commonwealth Speaker 12" 8 Ohm, 225W, they reach down to 50 Hz. I personnaly don't like dedicated bass speakers too much. They are lacking character imho. For running a BassVI i would stick to guitar speakers w/ lots of low end.

I like the Eminence Canabis Rex for this.
I have them in a 212 that I keep at home and run with a Ampeg B25b. It handles guitar, bass and VI with out any problems.
Weber Michigans are pretty good for this too if you like a more vintage bass sound with a litte speaker breakup at higher volumes.

Also, let me take a moment and say that your set up sounds amazing. And, on further reflection, I realize my friend Mercy has almost the exact same set up (just, a V4, and her custom shop bass vi is pink) I should ask her what speakers she uses.

Whew, the Delta Pro 12a weighs 17.9 lbs. Ugh.
It's a vertical 2x12 so maybe I'll try a Delta in the bottom position and something else up top. Mix that shit up.
