Reverb tanks, 'verb tanks.

Post by Dronefacemcgee »

I've recently acquired an AC30CCH which is basically just the chassis of a AC30CC thrown into a head cabinet, and I was wondering about changing the reverb tank on it. It currently has a Ruby reverb tank, which from what I can gather is not the original reverb tank. The reverb on it right now is really low, quiet, and not at all what I want. I have a reverb pedal but nothing sounds like spring reverb in an amp overpowering my sound.

I want a reverb with a looooong decay. Thanks guys!

Accutronics?

Longer springs = deeper reverb/longer decay I think.

I believe you're correct. Accutronics is the one I see tossed around a lot for a replacement, but I have no idea to determine which one to get. I bookmarked a post on another forum where someone went through what each letter and number meant on the tanks, so that helps me a little.

Type 4 is the most common and is associated with the Fender reverb sound.

I don't know how nuts you want to get, but Type 9 has six (!) springs which would probably be super full sounding.

Afaik spring length isn't determining factor for how long deep the reverb gets. There are short, medium, and long decay for each spring length.

I had a reverb tank in my Twin that was super weak, and I found out the impedance was off. Tried a MOD tank that was super lush with nice long decay, but settled on a cool old guy ripped out of a 1950s organ apparently. Not as full as the MOD, but a really unique splashy high end to it. Couldn't be happier.

Oh, and I'll add that the lusher MOD was 3-spring while the brighter shorter vintage one is 2-spring.

Six springs sounds intriguing, does anyone know how to determine the correct impedance for the reverb tank? I tried to google it but all I could find was guys talking about mojo and fender outboard reverbs.
