This has been on Kijiji for a little bit now. The guy's asking $800 obo, which seems a bit much (esp. seeing as I don't have a job right now [but I think I'm getting one soon]). Worth going for/what should I offer?

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
Nice, I've wanted an SB-300/400 forever.
Yeah, even the budget Gibsons that nobody used to want are going for bigger money these days.
I'd offer something like $600 maybe and see what happens.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
chankgeez is spot on - $600 is as high as I would pay, as these are in the same price bracket as musicmasters/broncos, though slightly more obscure.

That's too bad.
If you really want one of these, they do pop up. People usually are asking too much for them though.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
I haven't looked them up too extensively on eBay or anything, but, as cool as this one looks, it wouldn't be my first choice for an SG. And yeah, overcharging is a serious problem on Edmonton's Kijiji ads.Chankgeez wrote:If you really want one of these, they do pop up. People usually are asking too much for them though.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
I played an SG-200 from around the same time period at a shop a while back, and it didn't blow me away. I was able to get a recent SG Standard with '57 Classic pickups in it (which are my favorite of the current Gibson pickups) for around the same money. Suited my tastes better. Those are really cool looking SG's, but I doubt I'd buy one without playing it first.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
Well, Kosta, you're accustomed to the good stuff.
These budget SGs shouldn't really be thought of as true SGs. They're kinda their own thing. Really the only thing that's similar is the body shape. They were definitely for the introductory market.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
^^^ That's fair, Chanks. To me these are much more $500 or $600 guitars. I'd almost be more inclined to get an old Kalamazoo KG-1 or KG-2 for $300 - $500 $200 - $400. Love those little chipboard ponies.

That being said, those SG-100's and SG-200's are sexy lookin'...

Yeah, those Kalamazoos have their fans, but to me, they're not that interesting. They're fine, but I'd much rather get something more oddball.

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
That's legit. They're basically Mustangs made out of MDF with worse pickups. I love the headstocks and the colors though...

Re: '71 Gibson SG-100
I'd rather have a budget guitar from slightly later, a Squier Bullet.

Do love a Bullet. For sure. Or any old Peavey from the first generation or three.

Kosta, last couple time I have been in town Fast Eddy's has had a darker blue Kalamazoo Mustang. It's what I used to try out my Super Reverb before buying. No idea what he wants though, never saw a price. Played another in a small shop in Ohio and it played equally as well. Seem pretty solid.
