Korg Volca series

Post by space6oy »

any of you get any of 'em yet? i picked up the bass & keys, will definitely be getting the beats too. just learning to use 'em today, but they're awesome. totally worth it IMO if any of you have been interested but haven't gone for it. amazing how much they've packed into a tiny little box.

my only complaint so far is that i wish the keys on the bass weren't inverted. understandable for the 16 step pattern to keep them in a straight line but confusing for playing / programming notes...

I loooove my beats. I'm gonna come back and edit this post one i've uploaded some of the stuff i've been making with it.
i'm using it in conjunction with my echoplex looper and sending the sync out so i can layer bass loops with beats. god damn it's fun.
the only thing is i wish it had tap tempo, or a swing setting, but supposedly you can control those thru the Sync Kontrol iphone app.

i've been on the fence about the Volca Beats. it sounds good, small, great price. but i kinda want a "keeper" drum machine because i'm tired of doing the whole "buy something i can afford now and upgrade later" thing.

i'll wait for the Roland AIRA and see what's that all about before i make a choice. until then, i have my trusty sp404sx to handle beat duties. who knows, maybe by then i might even be able to afford a tempest or a machinedrum

How is the keys for someone who has only played piano and is perhaps more interested on creating tunes rather than bleeps and bloops? Thinking these could be an awesome present for my wife (and me hahahaha!!)

Well, you will definitely need a midi keyboard. Even for someone that does not suffer from sausage fingers, its still difficult to not accidently press a neighboring note.

I motherfucking love my volca keys  Audio bleeds through the sync out jack, but I don't really need that feature even though I wanted to use it. I would get the volca bass, but I'm content with my current setup. I could sell/trade my monotribe for a volca bass, but I'm tired of flipping gear, and I love the monotribe anyways.

Korg could so get away with charging a little more for the volca series IMHO!

I've been thinking of picking up the bass and beats when I get my tax return this year. I need a small synth and drum set up here at my house to futz around on since all of our real synth gear is over my bandmate's house.

Can you sync the keys with the beats?

Funny thing is, I've only heard of other's having this issue with Keys syncing a Monotribe. Gear Sluts and Harmony Central have a thread about this issue. Maybe syncing the Keys from the Beats will work out just fine. In other words, the Keys maybe the only one with this audio bleed through the sync out jack problem. Its not really an issue for me since I clock the Keys with the midi out of my TR-626, and clock the Monotribe with the trigger out of the TR-626.

ok first reaction to volca beats - awesome, kick & snare are just decent compared to other drum machines, but it's still totally fun. personally i'd have scrapped the stutter and added something else, but that might change over time...
