Accidentally bought a shorting jack HELP

Post by bigchiefbc »

So, I'm putting together a dual fuzz and I realized as I was soldering everything up today that the jacks I bought are shorting jacks, instead of the normal mono ones. They're these guys: http://www.mammothelectronics.com/4SJK1 ... 0-1006.htm

I wired it all up and I'm not getting any signal, even bypass, so I know that the jacks are mis-wired. I was pretty sure that the leftmost lug was the tip, and the rightmost lug was the sleeve, and the middle lug is the shorting part. But the problem is that I have no idea if that's right, and I have no idea what to do with the 3rd lug. Please help out a moron.

Yeah it does look like that one. OK, that's what I did, so I guess it's something else. I'll poke around again tonight and see if I can find the issue. Thanks,

Just note that cheep copies might have a different pinout config.. Turn the jack to the side and look at the layers the top layer(the one closest to the arm of the jack is the sleeve. the middle is the shunt and the bottom(part closest to nut) is the tip!

Yeah, that's what I figured, and that's how I wired it - the lug that connected to the bottom layer is where I soldered the input signal, and the top layer for ground. It was late last night and I was probably high on solder fumes :) I'll check it with a clear head tonight. Thanks for your help,

So it was definitely the jacks. I think that the pin-out of the lugs is not the same as the switchcraft, but I was getting really frustrated trying to figure it out. Even my audio probe wasn't working right because I must have had the wrong lug soldered to ground.

So in a fit of range, I just took the damned things out and replaced them with the mono jacks from my beavis board. Problem solved, everything is bypassing fine now.

Now to figure out why I'm not getting signal when it's engaged :p

Negative. I didn't design the circuit, so I'm talking with the duder who put it together for me, to see if something might be funky on the board. I'll definitely keep you guys updated if I need more help. Thanks!
