Anybody ukuleleing around here?
Tanya and I each got a ukulele and we've been having a lot of fun goofing around on them.. they're really easy to get into even for a total beginner, really neat sounding and fun to play with just a few chords.
It's making me want one with a pickup in it now.. anybody around here do that? Plug in a uke? Any ukers at all? Got any cool websites or tabs to check out? YouTube has tons of people that will teach you chords and ditties, pretty cool uke crowd there.

I've got a uke, but it doesn't really hold tune. So, it's more of a wall hanger.
I've also got a Venezuelan cuatro, which is a close relative. It's pretty awesome. They're both acoustic though. (I'll see if I can snap a picture of it later.)
You definitely should get one w/ a pickup, Ryan. Bonus points if you get a resonator uke.

Very cool, is that a 4 stringer tuned like a uke? Ours are Kala soprano ukes, about $75 each, they sound sweet and are holding tune decently after a few days.. had to tune them non-stop at first.
I saw a TARDIS uke that's been calling my name... http://www.ebay.ca/itm/4-string-Tardis- ... 485efd54ea

I've got a real cheap uke that my fiancee picked up for me in Hawaii years ago. It was pretty fun, but it won't hold anything even close to tune anymore. So now it's just a decoration.

Re: Anybody ukuleleing around here?
What tuning do you use, Blackened Soul?
That sounds pretty nice, kinda like a piano with some reverb (the first and last parts at least anyway). The other part sounds pretty huge and droney for a uke.

Re: Anybody ukuleleing around here?
Ah, gotcha, yeah, sounded pretty massive for a uke. That explains things.
I tune the cuatro to ADF#B or GCEA. So, pretty much the same as uke tunings.
For a while I was playing guitar in DADF#BD or CGCEAC, but that didn't work out so well because it's a limiting tuning on a six string.

Re: Anybody ukuleleing around here?
The wife and I took a trip to Maui a few years back, no plans, just winging it. I foolishly to no guitars. We lucked into picking up the local newspapers best of issue, and started exploring using that as a guide. One of the things was "best music shop" so we went. The Ukes there were NOT cheap. I found a nice one that had been marked down to less that $200 and when I looked at the back, it was spalted maple and the pattern looked like a dog or wolves head. We love dogs so it became very important to my wife that I purchase said Uke. It's a sweet sounding little instrument. Lots of fun to play and it doesn't do "sad" Just happy music on that thing.

My girlfriend has a lanikai with a piezo pickup and three band eq. She uses it for songwritting. Sounds nice with a low and slow phaser.

I got me a cheap little uke. Plays and sound quite good. Its the best instrument for chillin on the verandah with a few beers on those summer nights. Its a Mahalo brand. Which I think might be Hawaiian for "cheap Chinese made ukelele".
