les paul studios

hey everybody,

just wondering what the general opinion from ILF on les paul studios?
anyone play/own one?

also, have any of you played one with mini-buckers?

any advice/help is appreciated!

Out of all Les Pauls, I like studios the best. Stripped down, less bling, lower price (ding ding ding), solid colors (Not a fan of bursts except on some semi-hollows and acoustics). LP Standards and Customs immediately bring to mind balding, overweight, overpaid white boys playing blues licks.

Also, mini buckers are rad. Try it out if you get the chance.

I'm not much of an LP fan (though I do like the tone and scale length!)...but the studios are the only LPs (aside from Juniors) that I'd be interested in. Nice to see Gibson expand their lower end a bit.

I'd personally go full-sized buckers just cause it'd give me a ton more replacement options. But the minis look good, and I've definitely played some good minis.

Try one out first if you can!

I had a late 90's Studio for several years. Good guitar, crappy stock pickups. Way too high output for my liking, sort of dull and muddy sounding to me. I probably should have tried swapping pups, but instead I sold it a few years back. I'd consider one again, with either the minibuckers or P90s.

ive always flipped studio models after awhile. i loved em for a year or two than passed them on. i never and never will flip my 90s les pual plus top tho. with gibson its hard to find a good player these days, ive always been drawn to features that they offer however its just not a guitar i love ( ima fender electric man/however acoustics gibson and larvee are my favorites) i would have to visit a shit ton of gc's before picking out a studio model. i owned a shit ton of studios but a couple years back i hit a point where i was like "if u just add a couple hundred bucks that makes it a non studio, and if price is a matter there is epiphone." ive never had to change pu's on a high end les paul or worry about resale later. from that point on i stopped considering studios.

i'm gonna go try it out later this week.
they also have a les paul custom in silverburst too from 1990 (i think)
while that guitar is sweet, 2,900$ for a guitar is a bit nuts.

Very true. Really 90's epi's are as good or better then most new gibson with a pickup switch, the birdseye topped ones I remember being really nice thick sounding guitars

I know firt hand that 90s ones are the bomb. Couple of friends had them, and I have a '96 Studio Gem (P90s and cool frinish - pre 50s tribute, but very similar). Rock solid, sound great, look great. Always fancied a white one myself.

I'm curious to try one of those 80's Studio Standards with the binding and dots. Love the way they look.

On the topic of LPs, I don't need super fancy LP features (though Customs are my fave to look at and play) but I def like binding. Just looks off to me without unless you're talking LP Jr.
