Why would I NOT buy this?

Post by TweedBassman »

I'm looking for a strat body, with Hum/single/Hum routing. I have a neck and a bunch of other parts kicking around (pots, bridge, tuners etc...), just no body to build up a custom strat.

Looking at ol' Rondo, they have this on sale:

http://www.rondomusic.com/leo3ts.html

One piece Ash strat body, one piece maple neck, I can add whatever i want and rewire it. $99.

EHHHHH?!??!?!
Got my A machines on the table, got my B machines in a drawer.

Could be cool but if you have everything but the body, you should check these out: http://www.guitarfetish.com/Strat-Style ... _c_75.html

I have no first hand experience with the SX Strats, but I have read that the SX neck pocket is not the same as a Fender neck pocket. If I recall correctly, the pocket is too wide.

If you plan on putting on a Fender neck-- and judging by the neck on my SX Furrian, you might-- you may want to look into the dimensions before you buy.

I've had a couple of SX guitars and quite honestly they were nice.

The headstock is fugly but they play surprisingly well. You shouldn't be too hesitant to get one IMO.

I've had an SX bass for 3 years or so and it's pretty baller for the price. The body finish hasn't held up that well, kinda chips easy, but it's straight black, not a burst, so dunno if the finish quality will translate. The body wood itself is solid, although I did have the string tree strip out of the headstock somehow. No idea what woods they're supposed to be.

I had an SX Tele....Thing was tough as nails and sounded really fine for a $100ish guitar. I gave it to a friend who was just starting to play.

I've heard this as well.

That being said, I've heard fairly good things about SX and Rondo in general. :idk:

my roommate has an sx Tele that we put an Esquire guard on and put a contact mic underneath the guard. I love it, but it basically just needs a set up and it would be amazing.

Oh come on, that just means you can get that gaudy "distressed" finish that everyone creams their pants over without having to shell out $200 to have someone trip acid and go to town with sandpaper and a chisel.

My only concern with a guitar that cheap would be its intonation and sustain.
