cheap cool bass?

Post by echodeluxe »

so, im gonna start playing with this rad band, and they need a bassist. they have three fucking guitarists holy shit.

anyway, their sound is kinda Explosions in the Sky/Broken Social Scene/etc so i wanna compliment that.

my pedalboard is gonna be TU2 > Wattson Escape Velocity Overdrive > Wattson EFY-6 > DL4/DE7

so i was thinking about getting a shortscale bass maybe? like an old Teisco like the one Chris Bear uses in Grizzly Bear:

or maybe a mustang bass. I dunno, something rad like that. old/vintage and cheap comes to mind, so anything thats kinda vintage and quirky would be good, so long as its playable.

oh and if you wanna check out the band, they are called Unconditional Arms http://unconditionalarms.bandcamp.com/

Squier VM Bass VI perhaps but they're a little hard to get ahold of currently. Mustangs are cool too or maybe a 32" scale Reverse Jag bass if you don't mind the look and can find good deal used.

Those Epiphone semi-hollows are killer too.

3 guitarists? Did that in a post-rock band for a bit. Big round sound is awesome for that, so I'd probably say the Mustang or Jaguar if you were set on short scale. I used my P/J Yamaha, maybe the Squier VM Jag? Otherwise, take a look at Chris from Maserati. He rocks the P-Bass, and does it well.

Peavey T40
I liked it more than my musicman. Super thick sound, very versatile. heavy but that's okay because you're not a sis cause you play bass

I'd look into a Fender Musicmaster bass if you want vintage, shortscale, and affordable.

Put a mudbucker in anything.
They can take the high ground, you take the low. It'll be fantastic.

I personally don't like short scale basses but the mustangs I've played have sounded pretty good, that's another pretty decent option

I really dug the Squier VM Mustang bass.
There's also those Starcasters and Coronados coming out.
