The Elements 9v vs 18v

Post by warwick.hoy »

I've got a brand spanking new The Elements incoming from the great province of Alberta today. I'm super excited (thanks Mr Ryan for working out a sweet trade with me)!.

Having a PPII+ with the proper adapter cable,...I'm able to run the pedal at 18v. Obviously I'm going to experiment when the pedal arrives but in the meantime I wanted to ask what to expect running it a the higher voltage. Any sonic differences? Pros and Cons?

I'm intending it for bass overdrive duties,...but can't wait to hear how it sounds on guitar as well.

I haven't tested mine with my new amp but I recorded it at 9,12 and 18v and didn't hear a difference. I run it at 12 at the moment because it gives me an extra 9v outlet to use with less flexible pedals. Whatever. It kicks all kinds of ass regardless of voltage.

on guitar: for drive it sounds great (and probably best?) at 9V - drive 1 is crunchy/sweet at max and the clips are nice and frayed at the tips

for pure cleanness sounds though, with volume maxed and on drive 1 at minimum or just above, it sounds better and zingier at 18V

I like it more at 9V, has more saturation to it. At 18V it is much cleaner and has more headroom.

Yeah Yeah. Still haven't tried it at higher voltages yet. It's awesome at 9v but I'll give it a shot when I'm not trying to learn a bunch of Steely Dan songs (holy shit those basslines are hard).

Thank you Ryan. The Elements has blown me away.

it may be different with bass, which i presume had a higher output signal than guitar?
with the guitar if i run it at 18v i cant quite get enough saturation at max from gain 1, although it may be just the right amount with bass

which dan songs you learning?

Josie, Peg, Kid Charlemagne. Try to put together a repertoire and see if I can find some work that doesn't involve flipping burgers.
