Jazzmaster pickups in Jaguar Thinline?

Post by Pop »

Hi friends.

Do you think it would be a major pain in the ass to put some Jazzmaster pickups in this Jaguar Thinline?

I want the semi-hollow body and 24" scale, but with Jazzmaster pickups. I would also replace the three little switches on the underside with a Jazzmaster pickup selector.

Thanks!

Well you'd have to route a semi-hollow body, which could be a task. Then it would be an issue of how to mount the pickups in the body, depending how much of it is hollow, etc.

Yeah... that could potentially be a major pain in the ass.

You could get one of those Pawn Shop Offset Special models and swap the neck for a 24"? That already has the semi-hollow, JM pickups and 3-way switch.

They make a semi-hollow Jazzmaster too but it's a Japan domestic only model I think.

I like the pink one, actually. The pickups are apparently humbuckers, though, and not Jazzmaster single coils. I figured it would be easier to switch the pickups out of the Jaguar than to get a new neck for it.

Novak makes Jazzmaster pickups that drop right in a Jaguar. Not sure if they'd work in the thinline or not, but:

If you're thinking about pulling a Jazzmaster/Jag neck-swap, you're going to have to move the bridge position too, to accommodate the different scales. Your best bet - if scale dominates your decision - is to go with the jag version and get yourself a set of the Novak drop-in jazzmaster pickups. That way, you have zero body mods and everything is reversible.
