a quick question about delays and dirt

if you could have an option on a delay for some gain/dirt, how would you be more psyched about it?

1. set up like a preamp or DMM so that increasing gain affects both the clean and delay signals (with a master volume)?
2. set up in the delay path only so you always have clean cleans?

i prefer option number 1. although i would like something a little more refined than the dmm. on mine it can be difficult to dial in a unity signal without it being already into pretty gritty territory. in fact, i can't really avoid volume drop without getting pretty gritty. not that i mind, i love that sound, but on a new delay it might be nice to have something like a mix knob and a gain knob, so that they could be controlled independently.

Yep I'm all for a mix and gain knob. I think that would be nice and handy. I really like the DMM's pre and the way that it interacts with your sound, but like misterstomach said the volume drop and headroom left a little bit to be desired sometimes. Maybe having a Mix knob and then an option to also bypass the preamp if desired, or setting the gain knob to zero is essentially a bypass for it.

Not fussy as long as increasing delay mix doesn't result in a volume drop for cleans. I voted 2 because I'd probably prefer that? But as long as you can get unity clean gain on any delay level setting I don't care in the slightest.

the idea is either:

gain, mix, master volume. gain is PRE-delay and would act more like an overdriven preamp tat would affect both your clean signal and the delay, ala DMM, but with more even control over it (i also kind of hate the DMM input gain control) - won't be this, but think mini > delay. SO with gain at minimum it would be unity and clean, effectively bypassing it... turn it up for some gnar.

OR

gain, mix, master volume. gain is POST-delay so you would have gained out repeats - the only thing here is that i would probably have to clamp down on the level so that the overall balance wouldn't be totally wack with quiet cleans and super loud overdriven repeats. this would be more in the vein of the caroline kilobyte which just came out recently.

Awesome, love the master vol & mix combo. Would both of those be possible in the same pedal? I think full on dirty would be great, but so would clean dry and dirty repeats! It would be sweet to have the ability to switch between them.
