In my mind there is very little overlap between the two. shiva is well suited to all the "normal" fuzz jobs, growly, octave, splatter in some settings. Then there is a limited oscialltion capability. The TGD is a balls out weapon that you can only count on for one thing. fucking shit up. it's (almost) always oscillating, and it's pretty tough to get a "rock band" kind of chord-y fuzz out of it, it's always going to be splattering or trying to oscillate. TGD is more of a noise synth that happens to accept an input signal

See my problem is that I love that balls to the wall fuzz sound, but my current band (which I shamlessly promote: www.sterlingheart.net) doesn't need that right now, and I don't have the money to buy a pedal I just use once.
However I think my current pedals can, when combined when mars is close enough, can do shiva...

Shiva or TGD? YES! Couldn't pick one to save me, they're both really killer pedals, and sound great with a four string thing. I do think that TGD can do some crazy crazy things that the Shiva cannot, but the Shiva's fuzz just kills as well. Plan on getting both, once you play one, you want more dwarfcraft.
For the love of fuzz.

I've been wondering the same thing. I think the Shiva would suit me a little better. I love the noises the REEEEEEALLY crazy pedals make, but I'm too funny looking to get people to stay around while I use em. :omg:

Recently I bought a Shiva. Man, that is awful!
I use it with bass and have some fuzz-type fxs (NoiseBox, Woolly Mammoth clone, MidFi etc.) but it runs rings around them.

Definitely Shiva for me; just seems generally more useable.
I only properly sat down and listened to it this week and it's jumped to the 1st, maybe 2nd place in my GAS-lists that's as long as my arm! :p

I would def. say the TGD is useable as well, the basic fuzz w/out using the starve knob is KILLER.
For the love of fuzz.

Somebody on shortscale said that if yo put a booster in front of TGD it becomes a "normal fuzz"?!??!?!

Haven't experienced that yet...

I put my MXR Blowtorch before TGD and it does make it a much normaler fuzz?! VERRY Extreme but the boost seems to calm the oscillation and blip/farts down. I think I may have to get a dark boost for this pedal I think it may work wonders on expanding TGD possibilities. Has anyone tried this?
