I have yet to find a MIJ that lived up to the hype made in the last 20+ years. Most were cheap, functional instruments but sorely lacking in the electronics department. Then they got stupid expensive, and I ran.
And let's be fair, $1k is not your normal, typical MIM, although that day will come. I'm just glad to see they're putting out what the peoples allegedly wanted: matching HS, binding, etc.
My Classic Player HH is a fine, fine, fine guitar. The moved trem rocks and is dead, stupid stable. I even like the buckers.
It's my main synth guitar.

Agreed on all points
I'd take the moved trem and tune-o-matic over vintage specs any day too.

I disagree on every point but the electronics. Ive played jap squiers from the 80s that blow away every mim ive ever laid my hands on and alot of the american. Mim shit on the otherhand is almost always overpriced, clunky, and in need of new everything. Squier beats mim every single day in my book.

See thats where i differ. I like the skinnier jap necks but then i have small hands. Although i think were getting off topic, would you pay $1000 for you mim jag? I havent played a whole lot of USA fenders id pay $1000 for. Let alone a mim. I played like four different lee ranaldo jazz masters. I actually bought two different ones off sweetwater and ended up sending them back within the day. On the other hand, the mij jags and teles ive played have all been great, would have had no problem paying the 6-700 asking price if the time was right or i liked the color. I just refuse to buy black or CAR

It's a Blacktop Jag that I got cheap and modded to hell. I'd say if it was the one pictured above I'd probably be more inclined to pay a decent amount of money for it, but I'm getting to the point where any guitar that reachest quad digits is rarely worth it
Considering that the Classic Players without the fancypants stuff now retail for $900, that's $100 for the appointments/headstock. Doesn't seem unreasonable.
If I say, had a fire and had to buy everything to start over, I'd buy a MIM Classic Player first off with the insurance check. Then a few Squiers, and call it good.
Today's Squiers are better than the old ones by a long shot, QC on cheapies is so much better these days it hurts (as are the electronics).
Now for head-bender, I have a couple MIM Squiers too. Only thing cheaped out on those was cosmetics and sometimes the pots (I like hot ceramic pickups, so no problems there).
My MIJ '69RI Mustang only has its color going for it over my Squier one, and was almost twice the price (at a fire-sale clearance price before the MIJ stuff started falling to earth in the last year or two).
What I don't get I suppose is that MIJ stuff doesn't exist because it's grand and superior - it was the original offshore production by a company desperate to have *any* product when it had almost no domestic production available in the early 80s after the buyout.
