Help me pick a guitar for Drop F tuning...

Aight so I'm going to be unloading and intaking a bunch of gear in the coming weeks and my main goal right now is to get a guitar to setup for Drop F, for the ACTUAL project I plan on getting off the ground after my daughter is born. So I'm undecided between getting either a 27" baritone 6 string or a standard scale 7 string. In the project there will be no other string players only a drummer and a key's / bass synth player, so I'm thinking the extended range of the string (which would have one more higher string) would be really cool for looping and soloing if there is any. So anyways here's the two I'm currently looking at and the proposed tunings of each, whatchu think willis? (not just you trey )

1) Ibanez AS100L 27" baritone - would be tuned FCFA#DG



2) DeArmond S67 7 String - would be tuned FCFA#DGC (I like the top 3 tuned in fifths for the kind chords and arpeggios I would be playing, also Dennis in Bongripper uses one of these for a similar tuning)

This, also I think you'd enjoy having that extra range available, and more pickups = more tanal options.

Damn man. Thanks for turning me on to those. I need a back up to my seven string and this looks like a cool cheap back up when I get around to picking one up. I would say go for the seven string especially if you are the only player, just to give you a wider palette to play around with.

Their pretty slick for a cheapo 7 string, their mahogany i believe and heavy with great sustain. The necks are a lil chunky but I like that personally. If you find one for 150 or under you should snag it! I all ready decided to start bidding on the one I pictured, its hard to find them in black the red was most popular and there's a few blue ones out there as well. Hopefully I an snag it on the cheaps so I don't have to sell alot to recoup the money

I didn't know he used one in bon gripper. Like you said ron is always in front of the pictures and I have seen more of the other guitarist's rig from doom forever doom that plays the les paul copy. If I can find one of those I will pick it up. It will be cool to have one different then the semi hollow I have right now

Yeah Dennis seems to be the least gearheaded of the bunch.

I'm trying to figure out what kind of pickup to put in there, I'm thinking low output of some type since it will be tuned so low. I've found lower output pickups tend to work better for lower tunings.

I use a dimarzio PAF 7 in my neck and an air norton 7 in my bridge. I went for the lower output pickups and have been very happy so far. The air norton has much more bite and really cuts for distorted rhythm while the paf is a bit smoother and carries more bass. Nice solid single notes.

Mmmmmm for what I'm gonna be doing smoother and more bass would be killer, and the PAF is what I was looking at since they run around 50$.

When doing 30bpm drone, attack and bite isn't something you really require.

well seems like you are goin for the 7. I prolly would too. but if you are not really soloing and whatnot, just doomin out you can pass with the 6. You wont really need a neck pickup at that tuning, turns to mush anyway. Although im worried about the short scale on the 7, 25.5 in F is rough dude. prepare for flop even with an .80. the bridge might run out of intonation space as well, all valid concerns to ponder.

Id look into some circle K strings for it to help out with flop and sustain.

I agree with Jason on the PAFs, sounds like a good set for this and cheap!! Is this the new development you were hinting at when I said you needed to get movin?
