So a song starts..the riff/sounds are amazing..and then...
Some fucking guy either death growls something moronic over it or sings in a nasal whiny beaten down emo voice. The music lover in me just dies a little bit each time. It's become my greatest fear.
Why is this allowed to happen? I don't understand. I dig heavy playing. I can enjoy a rough vocal or tuneful shouting. I'm not looking for Curtis Mayfield (although it would be interesting over a heavy riff). How can so many bands fuck up a vocal melody? Or even forget to add a melody to the vocal? Theres a path these bands should take. It's called instrumental
I figured we could make a thread for heavyish/alternative/riffy/guitarish music with good vocals. Any genre - just music that does a song justice by adding something vocally. That would make me happy.
Examples off the top of my head -

Just a couple, there's a lot of great music around here with actual singing. I hear you on that, it's a quick turn off for me when the singer cookie monsters it up.

Stumbled across live Ben Folds Five this week. I know it's an unusual addition for ILF but the bass player Robert Sledge uses dirt and muff sounds as well as anyone I have ever heard and they are killer vocally -

DarkAxel - Yeah man. I love the blend of vocals they used. I only got into them quite recently. For some reason I thought they were more Emo or screamy and had avoided them for years. My loss!
AxAxSxS - I had no idea Ancient Warlocks sounded that great! Thanks man. I'll check out more of their stuff.

Keith always does cool vox (watch out for the part after 3rd minute, love that shit)
also... the craziest live show i've ever been to

That is awesome! That guy has a huge voice. ETiD seem to have been more groove and riff based back then? I've heard new stuff and honestly thought they were a different band!

Yeah the earlier albums are more raw... the later ones get nasty as well but have some great melodies as well

Keith was definitely the first guy I thought of. His vocals have evolved so well with the bands sound over the years.

i'm into growly screamy vocals and all. so i'm not hatin', but i just thought i'd add this to this page, since it's not here and should be.
