Boss GE-7B vs MXR 10 band EQ (Is it worth the upgrade?)
I currently have a GE-7B that I switch on when I want to switch to a slap tone or maybe a more mellow sound during soft/clean sections of songs. But I have heard good things about the MXR 10 band on bass and was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade. Is there a big difference (besides the 3 extra bands obviously)? How much of a role can the gain control play in creating tones? And any other noteworthy differences...?
Thanks!
Thanks!

BOSS GEB-7 = 50hz, 120hz, 400hz, 500hz, 800hz, 4.5Khz, and 10Khz with +/- 15dB...
MXR 10 Band = 31.25hz, 62.5hz, 125hz, 250hz, 500hz, 1Khz, 2Khz, 4Khz, 8Khz, 16Khz with +/- 12dB...
Different ranges... The MXR gets lower but is focused more around the Mids where a Guitar sits... The GEB is centered on more Low-Mids and has more boost...
Figure out if those extra bands are worth it for you... I think the GEB it's TITZZZ on Bass and wouldn't bother but I don't Slap or get to Clean Mellow Soft...

I haven't used either, but based on the info Marc gave, I'd stick with your GEB7

Re: Boss GE-7B vs MXR 10 band EQ (Is it worth the upgrade?)
why so? i haven't used either on bass, but it seems to me that
31.25hz, 62.5hz, 125hz, 250hz, 500hz (MXR)
would allow a lot more shaping of bass tone than
50hz, 120hz, 400hz, 500hz (Boss)
am i totally off here? if so, please explain how. i'm not trolling...i really want to know because i use Boss EQs after each of my loopers.

Why not go for the best of both worlds. Try the Boss GE-10.
There are a few on eBay.

I was saying that the Boss is more focused on the low mids which is where the growl is for the Fuzzz... The MXR goes lower but it's those low lows that tend to cause rumble and mess up the Fuzzz for me... The EQ on my Peavey Bass head and the Peavey EQ-10 I use are closer to the Boss and I'm not really wanting for more range...

OK, that makes sense. i was thinking that the ability to cut the lower frequencies would allow you to dial out some of the unwanted rumble.

The whirlwind is so expensive! But it is the best I've heard.... I think I am just going to stick with the boss for now.

To me the boss has all of the classic frequencies you'd want to work with. The mxr seems to add a couple of extra frequencies to deal with problem areas - I often use a high pass filter around 30 hz when mixing to tighten up the bass, and I'll pull down somewhere around 200-280 - often find some ugly resonances there.
If you're happy with your sound go Boss. If you're mushing out or your mixes sound crap despite your sound individually being good maybe pick up the 10 band.
All hypothetical but yeah.

If your sound isn't good, doesn't that make your mix bad?
