Gibson Midtown Standard... I missed it.

Post by CBA »

http://www2.gibson.com/Products/Electri ... -P-90.aspx

DAAAAAAAAAAAANG. I had no idea this existed... probably because it only "existed" for like four months. I think they came out like last October or something, and then they were immediately discounted to $799 at most retailers for the holiday season. Now you can't get one. I see a few on eBay, but people are asking for the original price, something like $1,200.

24.75" scale, semi-hollow, just TWO knobs (awesome), block inlays, and of course: P-90s. KILLER. Besides the gaaaaaaaaay tiny headstock... but the only reason I don't like that is because I have a very small penis and, you know...

Anyway. Anyone played one or own one? I really like that vintage sunburst model... going for tooooo much on eBay. I'm sure I'll get lucky soon.

I played one and it was pretty cool, not a fan of the headstock (like you mentioned) or the flattop body but really solid beyond that. I posted 'em here somewhere when they started $799 clearance pricing but that post generated a collective "meh" haha.

They are solid guitars (especially for $799). If I hadn't just bought a pelham blue 535, I would have picked up the PB Midtown in a heartbeat

Reeeeeal sorry I missed that. WELP.

I like the basic almost-double-cutaway Les Paul look of it, like my Faded Special. Probably only slightly larger, and with some hollow-body tones to it.

I love the vintage "pearl" Kluson keystone tuners, but I think the chrome ones look tacky. Probably swap the buttons out for "kidney bean" Grover buttons. Other than that, if I can score one for $799, I'm going to grab it.

Played one and felt like it was pretty solid. Not 335 quality but definitely decent enough. Would be a pretty cool one to mod.

back when sam ash was doing there 1000$ blow out of the midtown customs, i had guitar center match a blonde/natural one for me. beautiful guitar, plays and sounds great. a little brighter than my 90s plus top lespaul tho which fits my style. my poor paul hasnt gotten any love since the midtown has been here.

I know right! Even when Gibson finally does something right, they go fucking it up by discontinuing.

And yeah, that Tweedy is BITCHING! Chicago Music Exchange had one not too long ago, shoulda bought that fucker and resold for future PROFIT. Damn it! Like HT mentioned tho, neck was pretty stout. I loved it regardless, really bitching how the neck was wood finished as opposed to Pelham, nice contrast.

Really? The tweedy sg???? What the fuck is gibson on dude their shit said the neck was the 60s slim taper. Why does every songle guitar have to have a gigantic fucking neck on it man. Ever since i started looking at semi hollows ive noticed it more and more.

Never got to play one. I made a thread about em a few months ago. I'm mad they discontinued them. That blue was so sexy.

stop talking about the Tweedy SG... probably one of the VERY FEW SGs i've ever loved

Midtows are... idk, man... Played like two at the shop and they seemed kind of meh for me... but i'm hardly a Gibson guy, so my opinion doesn't really count

especially because every guitar has seemed a bit meh to me lately
