the built in tutorials are worth spending some time with. TBH I didn't go through all of them but got to the point where I knew enough to do what I wanted and from there I just ran with it.

how do i nudge tracks over?

like i recorded a guitar track to go with a drum pattern i made, but it starts where it started on the recording. like i try to move the track in arrangement view and it wontn like, play from where the track has been moved to. does that make sense?

ill upload a clip to better make sense...

as you can hear, the swelled guitar starts after a couple beats, but not like, on beat. how do i get this to happen?! i want it to start on the first beat, or at least on a beat at all. ive tried physically dragging the audio but no matter where it is on the timeline, it starts playing at the same spot.

maddening.

double click on the track. The top part that is a solid colored line. This will open a "clip view" at the bottom of the screen. You may have to unclick the Wrp function. above the field where you see the waveform you should see a couple of markers that you can drag and adjust where the sound starts.
Also, to the left of the waveform field you will see a box labeled "start" and there is one labeled "end" you can adjust these. You may want to go through the tutorial that teaches you about latency. this will let you adjust live to account for slower computers so that you wont have these issues with timing.

I hear ya, there's just so much you can do that it makes the learning curve steep at first Once you get the hang of it you will love it though. I still don't use most of its capabilities.

i was wondering if it was weird that im using ableton cuz so many dj's and turntablists us it. i mean, so far ive written and recorded two songs using the built in drum machine, but they just sound like radiohead and death cab for cutie took turns fucking each other in the mouth and butt. no dubstep to be found.

good. i hate the reincarnation of dubstep.

far as it being recording software too, i used pro tools for 11 years before switching. ableton slaughters it IMO.
