Specimen in Chicago

Post by Psyre »

Anyone ever use any specimen stuff? I went with my bff to get his Ric setup and this is where he took it. I have heard of them so I was pretty shocked when I found myself inside the shop, I guess it's where you can take luthier and amp building classes too.

They also make these too: They were spiining some Bob Dylan through a couple of these and it really was the cleanest, dare I say Hi-fi I have heard a record being played. Sounded like a real acoustic performance. What a price tag though

AH! I've seen those record players before, so rad. That stereo amp looks so tasty, but I'd hate to scratch it up, it's so pretty

Are those the same people who did the aluminum guitars for Tar?

I've been watching Specimen's output for years. Some really great work. Yeah, they've done stuff for Tar, as well as for Jeff Tweedy and (I think) Low. Would love to visit their shop someday.

Fuck I loved Tar. I wanted one of those guitars for a very long time but a lot of epiphanies tend to happen when you open your wallet.

Andrew Bird has a pair of their spinning horn speakers and uses them to really cool effect in his live show. Sets up two mics 90 degrees apart from each other on the rotation and controls the spinning with a foot pedal as he plays. I'd post a video, but I'm at work. Boo.

Well you've gotta do something to keep people from realizing they're at an Andrew Bird show, I guess...

Hahah. I barely ever listen to him, but honestly, one of the best performances I've ever seen. He's crazy talented.
