has anybody played one of these? really considering picking one up. decently priced and SO sweet looking (i think i might even like them more than a firebird...)

LTD is probably best bang for the buck.
I really like the look of these too, they come in other colors if you don't like the spalted.

These axes look heavy. Why don't manufacturers think it's important to list the weight as part of the specs?

Thats a good point! Kinda a big deal to a lot of people. I have two DBZ V's though and they are both super light and well balanced.

This is totally not my usual aesthetic preference, but I would rock the shit out of that guitar.
