Nah, me either. I like some simple grain but none of that PRS ridiculousness.

Street price for Fenders is usally about 60% of MSRP, so this will probably be in the 4-5k range.
This.
They def make guitars that cost 7K and up but this isn't one of them. Gibson Custom Shop prices are about the same.

Yeah, but that's kinda the point of the Custom Shop. The instruments are obviously built to the highest standards but it's the custom finishes, aging, and unique wood and pickup options that really tack on the labor and extra expense and make the guitars "limited" or "one of a kind" or "custom". The major manufacturers aren't know for making unique body shapes or anything cool like that so they make up for it in finish options. They make everything from NOS to relic'd to completely custom one-off finishes, anything you order basically. Plenty of those finishes are super cool, plenty are horrifying, no different with any other custom instrument. Different strokes for different folks...
I'm not a big fan of relic'd finishes usually but I recently got a CS '58 Jazzmaster with a "Light Relic" and it changed my mind the minute I saw it and touched it. It's mild, some light finish checking, a semi-gloss look, light hardware oxidation/hazing (NO RUST!), and a smoothed lacquer free neck. It feels AMAZING, perfectly broken in like a guitar that has been owned, played, and well maintained for 50+ years, not all road worn/abused with fake looking finish wear. The Custom Shop did a fantastic job on it, no complaints at all. Oh wait, one complaint, bridge sucked (they all do), replaced it with a Mastery, only issue.
That said, I got it on trade from a dealer buddy, no special order or insane price tag. I traded about $1500 worth of old gear and $500 cash, a complete steal in my eyes. It's totally unique to boot which is nice, maple fretboard, custom wound pickups that are hotter AND fatter, custom mint guard, matching white headstock, the perfect JM for me!
After owning it awhile, I truly feel it was worth every penny but I'd have a hard time paying retail prices for one. When I think about it tho, the only JM I've ever touched that bested mine was vintage example and far more expensive, basically unobtainable for me. This was the next best thing.
