Vibe pedals (4 cheep)

Post by friendship »

Hi. I like the sound of vibe pedals and I thought it would be cool to buy myself a present since I haven't done anything nice for myself in like 100 years. I don't have a lot of money, though, so I was hoping to get something under $100 used, if such a thing is possible. I was looking at the Rotovibe (thoughts? caveats? robots?), which I'm interested in because of the treadle, but I'm not sure how likely it is to get one with my budget. Any other suggestions or thoughts? Thank you.

Cheapest and a very nice sounding vibe would be the Dan Electro Cool Cat Vibe. Some people have a problem with the slight turn on Delay but for the price, you can probably find someone to mod it for you and still keep way under $100

Assuming you're talking about univibe and not vibrato (as in pitch modulation), then on the cheap end I'd recommend the BBE Soul Vibe. It really is one of the best sounding univibes I've ever heard, and you can get them under 100 bucks new.

Yeah, it's the univibe effect I'm referring to. I like that some pedals allow you to select a pitch modulation vibrato setting, but the thing I'm really going after is the other swirly, "chorus"-like effect. That's awesome, I wasn't aware of that unit. This stuff is very helpful!

I've modded a Dano Cool Cat Vibe and I would definitely recommend it (modded though). It's pretty easy and I could do it for barely anything. One thing I actually really liked about it is the volume boost, though some people don't like that. Personally it helped the effect stand out a little more. The boost isn't huge or anything, but it is noticeable.

I'm going to be using this almost exclusively for home recording use, so I don't mind the boost so much. My Memory Toy has a slight boost and that's fine; it was fine live too because I would generally use it subtly for stupid ass guitar solos.

EHX Pulsar is 85 bucks on Amazon. You can get a used Soul Vibe from Guitar Center for 80 bucks. Though it's 115 bucks on Amazon new. Boss TR2 costs 50 bucks used on Used GC.

I think you're mistaking tremolo as vibe. Though the Soul Vibe is a Uni-vibe workalike.

Here's a comparo between the Soul Vibe and the Dano Chicken Salad, not sure how different the Cool Cat Vibe is from the Cicken Salad:

Those are cool, and they have the vibrato mode. A couple thing to consider about the dunlop 1.) it's not standard power, I think it's 18 volt. 2.) it's not true bypass, not necessarily a bad thing at all, I love a nice buffer, but I'm not sure how clean the bypass is on that one.
