BSIAB 2 or Guv'nor?

Post by Isher »

I was looking at a new overdrive for myself in the form of a DIY kit. I was looking at GGG's BSIAB 2 or their Guv'nor clone. I can find lots of reviews about the Guv'nor on bass, and I know Tim from RATM/Audioslave used it in a lot of the early Rage stuff, but I'm still not quite so sure. I also can't find any clips of the BSIAB through bass on the web.

I like a somewhat dark-sounding overdrive with a warm quality. I'm not necessarily trying to copy the tone, but the overdriven sounds of Songs for the Deaf-era Queens of the Stone Age comes to mind. Songs like Hangin' Tree and First it Giveth especially. I love that kind of driven bass sound.

I've had experience building and modding before, I just would like a few opinions before I make a move that hits the wallet and leaves itself open to possible buyer's remorse. Anyone else use the BSIAB/BSIAB 2, or the Guv'nor, or done their own little mods to them?
