Chorus or Octave?

Post by Necrosis18 »

So I was thinking of getting an octave fuzz but then I was like fuck that I have some of the best fuzz ever made and more on the way, why not get an octave and run it into the fuzz I already have? Would that work? would a chorus be better? Also whats the difference between Octavio, Octavia and Octaver.

And since it's probably relevant it's for bass and by fuzz I mean Bluebeard and Megalith.

I take it you mean you're looking for a dirty octave up fuzz sound? The Fuzzhugger Upper works great as an octaver combined with other fuzz pedals, I love it, super gnarly octave up. A Green Ringer does pretty much the same thing.

Octavio and Octavia are talking about the Roger Mayer octave fuzz that Jimi Hendrix used, whereas Octaver can just be any octave pedal.

If you want a cleaner octave sound, something like a POG would be better.

Chorus is never better than octave based effects.

This. Cosmichorus is insane and you should own one either way :)

As for octaves I'm not a huge fan of octave fuzz but I used to run an EHX Ring Thing in pitch shift mode into a muff and it sounded pretty great.
Reeeally want to try a BAT fnord though.

I forgot to mention that this is for bass.
I would like to try both octave up and octave down and a Pog/Hog or boss seem safe do to their simplicity.
Cosmichorus, organizer and ps6 are a bit more fancy but there's no way of telling what they would do before or after fuzz
The fuzzhugger upper is like way cool and if I was a guitarist I'd be all over it, But I think I might want an octave down... Definitely taken into consideration.

Has anyone run octave into fuzz or fuzz into octave? What did you use and what were the results?

For bass I'd say an Aguilar Octamizer is one of the best, superthick and heavy sounds, I don't how it sounds with fuzz though.

The organizer after fuzz sounds pretty massive

ive tried both fuzz into and into fuzz
and up down and both
after fuzz is less messy to me
and theres not much time i play through my board
that the ps6 isnt turned on
in one way or another
best way i can describe fuzz into octave up and down together
is fuzz alone being a growl
and with octaves being a roar
never tried a bass through it
but will on thursday
cause now im interested
i think its steve briggs that has pog and others

The Upper is also crazy awesome on bass too imo, paired with another fuzz it's so angry and heavy, but octave down is a very different sound. And clean octaves in general are totally different to stuff like the Upper. The Boss OC2 and OC3 are pretty good for bass octave down.

Boss OC-2 if you can find one.
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe also, my favorite analog octave on the market today.
