He's playing some nice harmonics in the middle there.

Re: How to tap like teh math rox?
Maps & Atlases is on the easier end of the spectrum in regards to tapping, there are some pretty self explanatory tabs for some of their songs on the net.
I learned 'A Spoonful of Slurry' by Tera Melos using the Pete Davis (Invalids) tab and demo. I'd recommend that for a nice challenge to get better at more unorthodox tapping techniques.
There's an infinite number of things you can do with tapping that a majority of bands don't explore, so good luck incorporating it into your playing!
What I like to do sometimes is use my left hand to hold chords in a progression and then use the right to tap other notes above the chord and slide/pull-off to create a melody.
If you're committed enough you should try polyrhythms too, and pick tapping.

Yeah I found that too. I was hoping for some secret secrets only learned from ancient tapping senseis and gurus.

Re: How to tap like teh math rox?
I'm super into tapping. I advise you get as good of a setup as possible, it really helps a ton. But it won't make up for bad technique. Start slow and build good habits. Try and be efficient and relaxed. Build up strength in your fingers by playing a lot. It will feel weird at first, just like it did when you learned the basics! Having fun helps too

God. Stanley Jordan is incredible. He kind of looks like Stevie Ray Prince now, though, I guess.
I do a lot of these tapping things when I'm messing around. Really, just toy with interval play and learn arpeggios. Watch some of Paul Gilbert's single string and string skip tutorials on arpeggios.
I'm not sure how to do This Town Needs Guns type stuff, but I've been happy with the results I have from messing about.
Oh, and look into this woman:

I have her as a friend on facebook, but I'm too nervous to ever message her x.x

Truth right here. Technique and compressors are your two best friends.

I've been stuck in the tapping notes onto chords stage for a while. It's time I hit the woodshed and stepped up my game.

Re: How to tap like teh math rox?
I thought I didn't really have anything firsthand to contribute to this thread, but I do.
I don't really tap, but sometimes I do hammer on with my fretting hand while I play behind the bridge. It's through lots of gain though. So, it's not really precise enough for teh math rox. More suitable for teh noise rooooocks.
