Possible issue with the Elements-help

Post by dirt-dont-hurt »

I purchased my second Elements OD and got it today. I have to say that it sounds dramatically different than my other one.
The main thing is with the mix knob.
Right before you get either 95% wet or 95% dry (clean) it does what it is supposed to do. The problem is anywhere in between. Its just not mixing like its supposed to.

I also notice that it is extremey bright. Even with the treb at "0".

Is it possible that there is some sort of internal fixed setting associated with the expression input? I don't have anything in there, but if there was at one time, I wonder if it changed things.

Any ideas why it is so different than my other one?

Sorry to hear about the weirdness...

Just curious, what finishes do you have? A black one and a white one?

Could it be that you're just using them in different ways or in different setups/scenarios/signal chains?

I have a Black one and a Steampunk.
I am using them on two different boards, but don't stack them. I'm not upset. The Steampunk does this thick, chewy OD that the black one can't seem to do.
Weird.
I am wondering if I get a white one if it will sound different yet.
I love that box...great offerings Dr!!

Thanks DDH!

You know, a white one might sound different yet..

There's been 3 micro-revisions of the Elements circuit, things that I always call 'house-keeping details' but they were all audible in small ways, in certain positions. First, with the black version, the first 100 or so were tuned a little hot so I backed them off, that was one micro-revision. I'm always looking for the biggest bang with the diode choices so another micro-revision was switching up the clipping diodes a bit for the Steampunk version. Final revision was with the white pcbs, I inverted the high gain signal so it would blend nicer with the dry.

Overall, unnoticeable revisions, but if you owned a couple and listened to them lots you'd probably notice, especially in certain settings.
