The Great Wall of Sound

Post by technicoloraudio »

Was about to get an Octron 2, but am now considering a Whammy V into an EHX micro pog for even bigger thrills.

The criticism I hear of each is their tone suck and digital sound, but running through a bunch of dirt and modulation, I barely care. I'm not questing for tone, but hate excess noise.

I'm kind of a simpleton but would appreciate divided octave polyphony.
but what are guitar pedals...really..?

i remember seein somethin with sliders
at one point
is there a pedal called"the great divide"?

dude,
I ran whammy 4 into POG and then Pog2 for a long time and flipping loved it, definately great for feeding into dirt, not as sterile and digital as you would think

replaced the pog2 with and organizer and liked it but not quite the same
using the Mooer Pure octave and whammy now and that is a flipping beast
pushes a fuzz war like a swamp monster

I love the POG2. I know people who complain about it sounding "sterile" or "digital," but as far as I'm concerned, it's the best there is at what it does right now. Different dirt will react to it differently - some pedals just don't like it, in my experience, while others just sing. For example, my B:assmaster typically reacts poorly and gets excessively harsh/squeally, while my Buzzaround takes it like a champ (TWCS).
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

pog2 is awesome
so was the pog and organizer
OC3 is also good if you don't care about octave up

Really liking the mooer pure octave
I realized I was only using the pog2 in a very limited way so the pure octave does everything I need it too

JRMY is right as well that it depends on the dirt, muff style stuff usually sounds great but sometimes you have to dial back the gain Rats to me sound brittle in a bad way

I am also out of back to the future jokes which makes me sad

Every octave pedal is going to sound pretty inorganic. After all, you're asking it to do things guitars shouldn't do on their own. They're also going to have some noise, but it depends as much on the rest of your rig.
Pog2 does a ton if you don't need the whammy feature. The attack and detune makes it much more usable than others IMO. Presets are a plus.
Whammy is good if you only want to use one octave effect at a time. Haven't played the V, but the IV needed to be reconfigured every time I powered it up.
If you want both features you might want to look into the new Hog2 or even an original. That might be cheaper in the long run.

The secret weapon on the EHX Ring Thing is a straight up polyphonic pitch shifter with some of the best tracking I've found. It's the ONLY reason I use it.

I really dug how with the PS-5 the highs and lows could be split with the outputs. That was rad
