Light Gibson lulz from NAMM, via store ads

Post by Gone Fission »

Apparently, after the last version of the Gibson Historic models being the most accurate ever, the new 2013's are even more so. The sales speak is just epic: http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/1727 ... r-Goldtop/ I project he next revision will be even more accurate versions of 50's Les Pauls than actual 50's Les Pauls are.

Also, I got a Guitar Center flier today mentioned on page 3 and appearing on pages 17, 22, 25, and 33, they're pimping the new LP Studio Deluxe II. For just $1400, you, too, can get a non-bound Les Paul with the feature no one asked for, an active pull-boost circuit. Do you sense a dealer concerned about being unable to move a product nobody asked for?

Okay, these aren't Firebird X level fails, but Gibson is always good for at least a few chuckles.

The most significant improvement to the gold top they could make, was to make it green?

Uh, you must have missed the part about the truss rod tubing.
And everyone knows green means sustain and resonance.

That's why that bass of yours is green right?

I love both of my Gibsons, but they've become the most laughable, overpriced guitar manufacturer in the states IMO.

And yes, you can have their new little tuner added for an additional $300... If you get a chance watch the video of their CEO Henry Juszkiewicz going over it. It's hilarious.

I was working in the guitar dept of a gc when those pieces of shit came out. for a long ass time before they were available I was saying how shit they were and how they were gonna bomb. My managers response? 'you dont know what you're talking about'

a month after release, even he was calling it the firewood x

the sheer amount of shitty and bad idea that those are is amazing
they look like shit, they feel like shit, they dont sound too terrible but who's gonna- im just gonna stop there cause I'll go on all night

I do love me some gibsons though, trad pros, trad pro 2s, and pretty much everything hollow and semi hollow they make I'm a fan of...SGs...Vs...Explorers...they make some cool stuff, but man do they fuck shit up too

It's the minute changes that have made this guitar a completely new animal.First off, and most noticeably - Gibson has reformulated the Gold finish of the Goldtop as well as the stain to the mahogany back. The Gold has been reformulated to be "richer" with a bit more green shading to it, and it adds a bit more depth as you turn the body to see the top dish carve. The stain of the mahogany back has been redone to capture more depth and detail to the grain as well. The truss rod in the mahogany neck is unsheathed from its tube encasing from previous years, and the neck is fitted to the body with hide glue. These are changes which we feel increases the resonance of the instrument

More green = more resonance.

these are words with an apparent singular/plural conflict. "which we feel increase [SINGULAR] the resonance of the instrument. [SUBJECT]" no wonder they build so much weird shit...apparently nobody over there can write instructions, either. :whoa:

Active pull boosts. Has anyone anywhere EVER expressed any interest in a guitars with active circuits?
I think not!

Give it 2 years and you'll see them turning up on the bay with the electronics ripped out.

I only got to the part about the finish being more green. I'm not a guitar player, but I'm guessing the way this will work out is something along the lines of...

2013: "We added to more green to the finish. Its reformulated and the gold is richer!"
2014: "FUCK GREEN! WE TOOK THAT SHIT OUT BECAUSE IT FUCKING SUCKS! MORE ORANGE RAAAAGGGHHHH!!!!"
2015: "Did they even USE gold finishes in the 50s?! Hell no. So we made this guitar -burst. Sun? Tobacco? WHO FUCKING CARES THEY ALL LOOK THE SAME BUT YOU'LL STILL BUY THIS SHIT!"
2016: "Okay, totally going back to gold. This is super duper accurate, guys."
2017: "We made our gold even better by adding more green to it!"

I have mixed feels about what they are trying to do.. the idea of some of the newer basses they have put out are great: big bodied LP & non-reverse TB and the Vee are cool, but, none of that is really new or very interesting... and that other bass that is shaped like a silvertone is just lame... I amost wish they would figure out what they are doing because it just seems that they are lost...

They are. They finally start making standard SG's with historically correct (and imo better looking) beveling, finally add the lyre/maestro vibrola option (for a $600 upcharge, seriously? fuck off) and jack the prices up overall. Now hanging their hat on the min-e-tune system (which will become a standard addition to all Gibson guitars in 2014 according to the CEO (another chance to jack prices up)) which I see being about as popular as the fireturd X. Color options are terrible, there doesn't need to be 20 different kinds of Les Pauls, and all those signature models? Get a grip. They have these ridiculous contracts that pretty well make it impossible for a small scale shop to sell their gear, which ties them together with Guitar Center for a majority of their business (which, last I knew, GC was tanking hard).

Sad really because I love my Gibsons and would like to add a couple more, but I definitely can't afford nor necessarily want much of the new production. I'd love an ES355 with stereo jacks but I'll probably end up getting an Epi or something from a different maker.
