Why is fuzz so great?

Post by Jaray9 »

Songs like Desert Cruiser by Truckfighters always reminds me just how perfect fuzz is. If that is the point of this site, a love for fuzz, just why do you and I love it so?

Agreed. Transparent fuzz is always the best.

Wait... Is it just me or is transparent fuzz the biggest oxymoron ever?

I just sold all my Fuzzhuggers for a custom dual Dunlop Fuzzface-Eric Johnson plus Joe Bonamassa, in a platinum enclosure with Zematis tribal design. Did I mention that it has a Dumble-designed clean-and-cleaner boost??? :p

No, there are many reasons why we each love fuzz. For me, it all started when I first heard Blue Cheer, at age 11. So I went to my non-musician father and asked how dudes back then got their distorted sounds. And he told me "they used fuzzboxes." The tone that would forever eat my money....

my serious answer is that it gives the instrument a whole different palette of sounds--sustain, tonal variation, compression via squarewaving--allowing the guitar to fill sonic roles far beyond those available without fuzz. you can be a foghorn, a squadron of B-17s, distant brass, or a jet engine revving a foot from your head.
