Two amps on the same foot switch?

Post by sam adams »

Would it be possible to make a foot switch that could simultaneously switch two amps at once with one switch? I'm running a stereo rig and I'm already tap dancing a bit too much to juggle two foot switches.

Amps in question are an Orange Rockerverb 100 and a Mesa Boogie Lonestar Classic. Eventually I plan on using the 5150 in place of the Lonestar.

I'm not seeing anything on there that looks like what I'm talking about. :(

I see a P-Split II which looks like a line splitter, not a foot switch. :idk:

To clafiry, I'm talking about a foot switch for switching channels on two amps simultaneously. Both amps are on 95% of the time and I'd just like something simple and less clumsy for switching from their clean an OD channels. I would consider buying something pre made, but was hoping for some thing I could build myself(with supervised help) I already have a Radial Twin City for ABY'ing.

You could do this, you just need to know what the two footswitches need to be: latching, momentary & then either normally-open or normally-closed, then get a footswitch with enough lugs like a 3PDT or 4PDT, depending on, and wire it up. If the two amps don't match in terms of what they need to do, you might have to do something funky with relays or other switching, which you might want to contact someone with more electronics knowledge to sort out?

Welp I just found that the Radial SW-2 is exactly everything I wanted and then some. So I think I'm scrapping this project idea. Thanks for the responses.

Good that you found what you want, because I was gonna suggest training two monkeys to hit the switches in sync.

I have done this. I housed a 3PDT switch in an empty pedal enclosure, wired the two circuits reverse from each other so that one connects when the other disconnects, and ran each to their own jack. I used it to simultaneously mute the guitar amp and actuate the boost on a GK head, but you could do whatever you need.
