Headphone amp? Amp and headphones?

Post by zRobertez »

First, I found sylnau's post from not too long ago but I have some other questions!

Any recommendations for one? I've seen the little Vox one around. Maybe something that you can plug up.
I know some have some gain on them but I would prefer clean or light od-ish. Something real simple, preferably smaller too.

Is there a way to use headphones with an amp that doesn't have a phones out jack? Can you plug them into the speaker out or will that destroy everything with some ohms/impedance issue? I feel like it's a bad idea. It would probably be way too loud for phones too now that I think about it. I guess that is a bad idea

OR can I just throw something like this at the end of my board and plug some headphones into the output and have it not sound awful?

Never do that.

Look, you want to use headphones to play guitar? Get a cheap USB interface and download Guitar Rig 5.

Headphones need their own Headphone Amp to work so No on the Pedal and No on the Speaker Out...

How bout a Multipedal thing??? All the different ones are good for this... Any small shitty practice amp should have phones out, look on CL or Pawn Shop it...

Don't blow out some phones gettin all crazy...

If you have a 1/4"-to-RCA cable you can plug your headphones into the "phones" jack of any aging stereo receiver, plug yr guitar in through the "tape monitor" ports or something similar, and rock the fuck out. Super cheap and has a good chance of sounding like butt if you really blast it, in a good way.

Small mixer would work in a pinch...

That reminds me of getting my first guitar and getting home and thinking, OK now what??? I asked my dad if he thought any of the neighbors had a spare amp laying around... Ended up using the stereo for about a month before I got a practice amp...

Some D.I. boxes have a headphones out. I'd try and find one of those, then you'd have a D.I box at your disposal too.
