Synth build: HELP ME OUT!

Post by JonathanF »

I've been working on my synth for a while- I first built it out of the case etc and it worked superb.

Then, I assembled it inside the case and weird stuff happen: It sounds dirty, not all the oscillators work, but they all affect the sound- there's the "main" high output which can be controlled by each of the oscillators- but even oscillators with different frequencies affect it the same. Also, there is some static interference which can be controlled by the pots- its pitch can change. Even if I connect only one oscillator to the output, all oscillators still control the sound which is weird...

Now, there are a few problems I can think of:

1. Not all of the diodes which connect each oscillator's output to the output are the same- could it affect it? If so, I'll get me 6 identical diodes.

2. The enclosure is really small for this type of synth and its FULL of wires, I only used wires (no printed boards or so)- and many of them are parallel. Maybe this could cause some sort of "parasitic capacitance" between them and some of the wires now function as capacitors and therefore fuck the whole thing up?

3. I doubt this is the problem, but maybe instead of connecting all the outputs via diodes to the main output, I should connect them to some sort of an op-amp (such as the LM324 quad amp) and connect its output as output?

Please help me guys, I really dunno what I should do. I guess I'll just re-build it and this time check everything twice while working and not just test it in the end and also try and be a lil' less messy- since there's a wire-chaos inside.

Thanks everyone
