I have always gone up up and up in string gauge.
When I got my 1st electric it had 8's on it...I broke 2 strings that very x mas day.
So I went to the music store and asked about bigger strings.
I have ended up using 13 gauge these days WITH the wound g.

I just finished watching Bill Gibbons rig run down, Dude uses 7's, so did Zappa.
Page etc. Its funny, Jon Scofield uses 13's as did SRV(not a huge fan but ya know)
So what about you guys?

I use 12s. This is the set I'm using now and they're pretty nice. Bottom strings are kind of bright but in an interesting way. Only thing I don't like is the huge unwound G-string. Sounds kind of dead compared to the others.

On the jag bass, Circle K's 150 .112 .082 .061 set.
B string is comically huge.
Any other bass gets whatever set of Chromes the local shop had the last time I bought strings...like...two years ago. The baby .135 set I guess, whatever.

Guitars get .11 and .13 Chromes.
Chromes for life. I wouldn't change my strings unless one broke anyway, but with flats it's like a bonus not to. So.

Almost all guitars:

Pyramid are strings made in Germany and i play the "normal" guitar strings since 10+ years. I really like them. The string tension fits my playing pretty good and they last quite long.

green Jazzmaster (for analog pattern robots):
Image
Pure Nickel Flatwound 010 .013 .019w .030w .035w .0465w

For my shortscale Mustang i did not tried pyramid yet, but will do soon. On the long scale basses i have pyramid 6+ years and dig them too. Won't change here. Only thing may be that i will check out the flats on my jazz bass probably... Will see. Right now other things to try first.

Univalve, have you compared the Pyramid flatwound guitar strings with Thomastik-Infeld flats?

Either of these on my LP and Tele. I need to man up and get some thicker strings, maybe if I get that HH jag I will use like 12's.

Ernie Ball 11s, those purple packets. Not because of a huge preference for Ernie Ball or anything, they're just the easiest to get hold of.

Jepp.
I liked the Pyramid a lot more. The feel is right from the start good and the sound was a bit more my thing. I don't know the exact differences anymore. I did that "test" more than a year ago. I also checked out the D'Addario - but they were not in the same range as Thomastik and Pyramid.
