Breadboards
What would you friends recommend? I wish Beavis Boards still existed...anything similar? Something easy to test on and transfer...

Re: Breadboards
I just have a basic Velleman breadboard. It does the job, but I much rather mod on the fly. I can't stand having wires and shit all over the place.

I love the smell of solder in the morning.

Re: Breadboards
I like the Radioshack breadboard. It's basic, but quality. You'll want to solder wires to some jacks and pots to use with the board, though. The board also has a sticky back, so you can build a Beavis board type thing with it if you want. http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... d=2734154#
They also have jumperwire kits, which are nice if you like organization. Otherwise use some 22-gague solid core wire.

Do tell more about this soldering jacks and pots to the board... Not sure I understand.

Re: Breadboards
Mammoth sells, among the Tonefiend kits, a breadboarding set-up that Joe Gore picked for some of the DIY projects he hosts. They also have parts kits that go along with the projects.

Re: Breadboards
If you're delving into the world of building anyway, it wouldn't be a bad idea to assemble your own Beavis Board-alike. I'll post pics of mine when I take them. Sourced all of the parts except the breadboard itself from Mammoth. I got four of these and put them together (they have cool little interlocking tabs, and the red/blue strips can detach as well).

I meant you'd want to take some wires, and solder one end of each of them to each solder tab on the jacks and pots, so that you can then plug the unsoldered ends of the wires into the breadboard. Like in this picture I just found and am shamelessly using for an illustration:

Re: Breadboards
+1 to a DIY Beavis Board. Get a basic stompbox enclosure and install an on/off switch, input/output jacks, and 9-volt wall-plug, solder them in, put them in the box, screw the box onto an available piece of plywood. simple enough. It's just about mandatory to find a better way to manage your jacks, plugs, and switches if you're going to be doing anything close to serious breadboarding.
