Binson Echorec -style delay pedals?

Post by D.o.S. »

Are they out there? What are they?

The Binson is hands down my favorite style of vintage delay/echo, but unlike the Roland and the echoplex it seems to be rather scarce in the stompbox remake world. So, you know, I figured i'd come to you guys and see if y'all had any pedals that'd do the job.

Thanks in advance dudes.

The echorec used magnetic drums to record and playback instead of tapes or solid state parts amirite?

Yea, and the 6 or so heads gives it the distinctive sound.

Always wanted to mod a Space Echo to have 4 or 6 heads as an option just to see if it gets close.

Depending on the price of the Infanem Disc Echo when it comes out I really may need to pick one up. I'd be willing to sell off a good portion of my rig to get that sound

That's a well made video, but I'd prefer one that actually went through the knob twiddling before I drop some cash.

Also, I'm not much of a modelling fan--it leaves a yucky taste in my mouth.

So what's the word on the Disc Echo? Google didn't give me very much (other than the fact that it isn't out yet), but I know Ken's got a solid following around here and I've heard nothing but great things about Infanem.

Last thing i know is this:

about a week away. I'll do a preorder discount for the first couple
days like I did with the Faye Sing to reward those that have been

After that, my design time will be split between developing a series
of disk-based (Binson style) echo/flange/harmony units, redesigning
the Harmony Synth, and releasing a deluxe version of the Second Voice.
None of those will be ready until summer, though, and I'm not sure in
what order they'll happen. I'm most excited to get into the echo
units, though, so they'll get most of the attention and, barring
difficulties in tooling up for them, first release."

I asume by the end of the year the first units will ship :idk:
Maybe i drop Ken a mail...

Regarding the infanem quality:
i'm kind of a fanboi of his stuff. i almost love all of them. build quality is superb and i personally had never had any issues.
the harmony synth and the second voice brought me into a whole new (knowledge and experience) area of playing music with a two piece band. without infanem i would never had created the analog pattern robots music. so i'm quite in love with infanem products and maybe biased

The Binson EchoRec I have direct experience with has one drum and four playback heads. There are 12 modes of operation (playback head patterns / arrangements).
You didn't hear it from me, but I think anyone reading this thread will be pretty excited shortly.

I dropped the dude an email about this mid-August. His reply left me with some SUHEERIOUS gas:

Kenfanem wrote:The plan is for disk echos to be released in the fall/winter at this
point. It's likely that I'll be doing a Kickstarter for the project in
September/October as it requires a couple thousand dollars in machine
tools to get off the ground.

As for features, I'm planning several versions with different feature
sets. At launch, mono and stereo units should be available with
optional features such as modulation, multiple heads, and echo tone
controls. Tap tempo will also likely be available for the
modern-minded user.
