If you don't mind a whole 'lotta reading about genre, this could be helpful:

http://www.popmatters.com/pm/column/158 ... le-stains/

tl;dr: check out Discharge, All Pigs Must Die, Wolfbrigade, Antisect, Doom... uh... and a bunch of others. :P

Someone was telling me that Kylesa was considered crust, or at least loved by bunches of crusts? The new album is one of my faves of the last few years:

Dude, that's what this thread is about! Go back and track down the bands!

Crust is a bastard child of punk & metal, typically with a political bent (at least, when you're talkin' old-skool crust), and often some trippy/psych elements thrown in. Back before we had stuff like Black Metal, Crust also took inspiration from industrial and proto-industrial groups (such as Killing Joke). Now that we've got one big family of "Extreme Metal" with Black Metal & Death Metal, Crust bands also assimilate elements of those other genre/threads.

Yeah, I listened to some of it. I'm not much of a metal guy but the Kylesa stuff sounds pretty cool. I like the drums a lot.
I was just wondering cause I'd never heard anything about it, and then today, I see it everywhere! Thanks though!

No prob, man! It's not everyone's cup of tea, but then, nothing is! :thumb: :p

And Kylesa actually has TWO drummers! They have since about 2006. So... yeah. Definitely some drummin' goin' on there.

Yeah, it's not clear to me whether Kylesa are really ARE Crust, or if they're just loved by lots of Crusties. Either way, I digs 'em. Speaking of which, did you see the news of their upcoming odds & sods collection? http://loudwire.com/kylesa-from-the-vau ... e-premiere
