That's killer. I've seen a similar idea executed in an oscillator before and it was rad.

This would be cool to have as more of a novelty. But I can't imagine it being robust enough for abuse.
I'm wondering if this is anything like the disk echoes may be. Minus the led/photo sensor part.

If it was executed internally with a rotating disc and LED I think it'd be far more sturdy. I agree that this one does look a little flashy and for show. But if you've got a board mounted LED and then somehow have the motor on the inside, attached the the chasis with the spinning wheel, A) It'd be a lot more accurate than having the light on the outside B) sturdiness would be improved 1000x over!
