The official SPEAKERS thread

Post by snipelfritz »

Seriously, I don't get it. Where do you even get speakers for amps? What are good brands, what aspects of the speaker tend to create what quality timbre?

School me ILF.

http://www.usspeaker.com <- for all your speaker needs.

There's alot to speakers, main thing is the higher the Sensitivity rating, the louder the speaker is perceived. As far as how they sound, there's rack tons of demo's on youtube and the website i linked usually has decent synopses of the speakers timbres.

What is going to determine whether or not a speaker will break up more or handle more cleans?

Generally speaking, a lower wattage speaker will break up faster than a higher wattage speaker.
Construction materials can also play a factor.

Here is some good info:

How is the Eminence Legend 151 speaker? Seems like it might be great for my Fender 75. Nice and clean and even useable for bass?

I had no idea about speakers (and still have little clue) so I wrote to Eminence, described what I had, (Vintage 30s), what I liked (pretty much nothing), what I disliked, what I played and what I was looking for in a speaker. Got a reply straight away, bought the recommended speakers locally and couldn't be more happy. Write to Eminence, Celestion and any other speaker companies whose products you can get a hold of and see what they say.

The Eminence 151 is a nice speaker, I have them in a 215 and they sound really good.
They aren't ideal for bass but would work fine for practicing or in music that doesn't need a ton of lows.

Ok. Info is a bit rare on these. They seem to be the JBL Version by eminence. But i also never heard that JBL one.
I found a good price at a shop over here. So probably i just will try them. I want them in my 4x12. Getting 4 at once a Bit scares me...

I have used replacement Eminence in all my vintage ampeg cabs, Legend 10"s and 12"s and cast frame 15"s (Delta Pro maybe?) I much prefer them to the celestions I've played thru. They're typically quite a bit cheaper and the company will spend the time to email you back and tell you exactly what's up.
Parts Express typically has every model they make.
Special low-frequency version.
