Phantom guitars?
I'm really close to ordering a white Phantom teardrop td6, but there is nowhere for me to try them out.
Does anyone here have one or played one? The only reviews I've read were a bit mixed.

Re: Phantom guitars?
Oh, yeah, I was gonna post in this thread, but I've no experience with the Phantom Guitars.
What've people been saying in the mixed reviews?
What're your concerns?
You can probably find a vintage teardrop guitar for less than the price of a new Phantom, but there may be issues there as well.

Re: Phantom guitars?
Read they were actually better than the old voxes at least.
What was mixed was the pickups, that they were a bit thin, but thats fixable. Ive wanted a teardop for years so Im going for it.
Was looking at teisco versions etc, but the teisco I already have is not exactly very good to play..

Re: Phantom guitars?
Yeah, if it's only the pickups you're worried about, I'd just go for it. May not be the cheapest fix, but you're right, they're fixable.
The only teardrop I've any experience with is my Kapa Minstrel 12 string. I think it's pretty awesome. Wide, flat fingerboard. Neck is pretty thin. Plays well.
The earlier ones have Höfner pickups. I have a later one with Japanese pickups.

Those Kapas look great! Is the tremolo arm as jazzmastery as it looks?

Re: Phantom guitars?
Kapas are great.
The tremolo system is pretty jazzmastery. Definitely not as well designed or solid as a Jazzmaster though. In fact, the one on mine is in need of repair. Probably not too hard of a fix. (I think the nut holding the arm in place came loose. So, my bar is just flopping around.) I never got around to fixing it. Who needs a whammy bar on a 12 string?

Ha ha, I just did an image search for Kapa Guitars and found this heavily modified Kapa:

Not a teardrop, but still pretty hot.

Those pickups aren't original. That's one of the mods, but they do look really sweet in that guitar.
Here's the link, price is nice too:

Re: Phantom guitars?
Kapas were made in MD buy the guy who opened Veneman Music.
He was only in it for the money and sold all the machinery and parts to Michro Fret up in Frederick Md, when the “guitar boom” was over.
