HALP. Clueless.
I've looked at some of the links recommended, and I've been to BYOC etc...
I want to build a basic fuzz, that can get a little crazy. I would have no objection to buying a kit and then modding it.
Problem is, I don't know where to start. There are some cool one-knob fuzzes, and I know BYOC has a good rep.
I can solder, and I know basic, BASIC electronics. Where did you start?

BAZZ FUSS! 1 transistor, 2 capacitors, 1 resistor, and 1 diode. Soooo simple, majorly tweakable, awesome fuzz!

Is there a step-by-step guide floating around? I'm not comfortable enough to print my own PCB's either. Total newb, but willing to learn.

It'd honestly be easier for you to use perfboard. Its readily available, no etching required, and you can see which parts connect to which.

As far as wiring up the inside of the pedal, this is what I use:

Re: HALP. Clueless.
That's really cool! It looks like it's easy enough to build as well.
I have a few questions about it though, and I'm not sure where to find the info. If you or someone could/would answer me, that'd be awesome.
What's perfboard/where do I buy one?
Where do I buy those components?
Looking at that diagram, the perfboard is underneath that blue thing, which looks to be the switch as well?
I do however see in the pedal diagram that there are some wires that don't go anywhere, why and where do they go?

Re: HALP. Clueless.
I'm a big fan of Mammoth Electronics for all of my parts. They have every part you would need to get one of these together.
The blue thing in the enclosure is actually the stomp switch. The blue wire goes to the input of the bazzfuss diagram, and the yellow wire goes to the output.
The two grey wires that are in the middle that don't look like they go anywhere are attached to the jacks, to the lead that is longer and the lowest layer.
So a bill of materials to complete the Bazz Fuss would be:
1 enclosure
1 3dpt footswitch
1 stereo input jack (if you plan on running on battery power, if not, just get a mono jack)
1 mono output jack
1 DC power jack
1 1N4148 diode
1 10k resistor (I've often found experimenting with this value leads to a variety of sounds)
1 .01uf output capacitor
1 2.2uf input capacitor
1 5mm led
1 5mm led bezel
1 3.3k resistor for the led
Here is a picture that I did of one without a knob to control volume. Its a little less to worry about, and still gives you the fuzz without having a knob to even worry about:

Re: HALP. Clueless.
That looks super cool. I'm going to have to give that one a go in a few days when I get paid. How hard would it be to add a volume knob?
The only thing I'm confused about now is the wiring of the jacks. Mainly the green and red wires.
So the grey wired go to the longest lead on both of the pots?

That really helped. Thank you for the illustration.

Re: HALP. Clueless.
I would highly suggest get a PCB from Madbean. Similar to what you'd get from
Byoc but a way bigger and diverse selection. Each Pcb has a doc PDF which has instructions
and parts list and diagrams for parts placement and wiring.
The boards range from simPle fuzzes and boosts to really comPlicated filter and
modulation pedals. Although, the Bazz Fuss on perf is pretty simple you
may go crazy figuring out all the wiring. I started on perf but wish I would have
tried some prefabbed boards first. Now I etch and design my on boards or
buy ones from madbean or Taylor's musicpcb site.
Good luck, once you open the door there's no turning back. There's so much cool
shit to build!

Re: HALP. Clueless.
For your 1st build I would say get 1590b. 1590 a is small as fuck. Bazz will fit but
Without proper planning on where the circuit fits in relatio to the jacks and
Switch, you may get fucked. It's a tiny space and if you you don't plan it right, your heart
may break.

Re: HALP. Clueless.
That's a good idea. Just changed it out on my shopping cart. How hard would it be to wire in a volume and tone knob?
Sorry I have so many questions. This is my first build. I'll do you all a solid at some point. Pinky swear.
