Hello there.

My friend got one of these and says it's reeeaaallly cool, and I've read a lot of good reviews about it. My landlady has been giving me the shit lately, so I'd been looking into tiny amps. This one is only 4W; probably not worth it at $299... but perhaps with a discount...

Anyone tried this ass? I KNOW it's not going to be a big loud amp... but for my 60s pop recordings it might be just right.

to my knowledge it's just an AC4 in sexay blue tolex. I love my ac15, despite the fact I think of trading it every month, but if you like Vox I don't think you can go wrong.

I thought I had seen a mention of two 12AX7's rather than one. That would make it possible that the amp actually does the full top boost preamp circuit. Haven't heard the amp or clips.

I imagine 4 watts could still be too loud without some sort of low powered mode or attenuator to not piss off the landlady. I've seen mention that a trumpet is the equivalent of a 1 watt guitar amp.

Yeah it looks like this doesn't have the attenuator the normal AC4 has. The attenuator in that amp is okay, not great, but if your landlady is yelling at you, it might be your best option.

Yep, looks like the difference is that there are two preamp tubes and then the covering. I think my landlady has more of a problem with bass coming through the floors, like with my massive recording monitors. I think this thing will be great for doing some recording... then I have a little 15W Fender "Rumble" bass amp... they'll be a cute little pair.

I'm actually selling this same amp that I started the thread about. Got it about a year ago, have barely used it. I'm getting a Blues Jr. so I'm selling my other two amps. I'd be willing to ship it if you want it. Not sure how close any of you are.

Sounds great. I did a lot of fun looping through it when I had an El Capistan... it can be quiet or loud enough to hurt your ears. I know wattage isn't that great of a barometer for loudness, but it's a loud little bugger if you want it to be. BUT it does keep its tone and grit when it's at lower volumes, which is the point. I'd often only turn it up about half way and it kept all its tone.

The gain and volume knobs work really well together... I'd often turn the gain all the way up and mess with the volume knob on my guitar, and got some really neat 60s tones. The bass and treble knobs have a very wide range. Great overdrive or light fuzz sounds if you crank the gain and volume and add some bass.

The El Capistan with my Small Stone phaser sounded like liquid cum. Oh... that's redundant.

Anyway... fun little amp for sure.
