New Gear...week!

Post by osbug »

So I have been attempting to unload gear I don't use, and improve the gear I do so it fits better with our current band. Of course, being a gear whore, I can't just sell stuff on Craigslist. No. No, I have to make trades. Fortunately I have managed to reduce my inactive gear and pick up some fun stuff.

First, last Friday there was this bad boy. I was originally just looking for a simple MIDI controller to use with Garageband, but I couldn't really pass this up.

I haven't really had a chance to play with it, because my daughter has been hogging it, but I'll get my shot at it.

Then Saturday, I finally got ahold of an amp I have been trying to get for quite awhile

A pretty sweet 1962 Reverberocket. It isn't mint, but it sounds ridiculously good. It has the 6v6, which is nice because I would rather spend time playing than hunting down odd tubes, buuuuuttt...

It did come with this box of sweet NOS tubes. Looks like I am going to have to spend some time testing out tubes. It'll have to wait though, because today this came in the mail!

Time for some pedalboard rearranging! The good news is I am super happy with my amp, and it even has sweet reverb and tremolo, which were pretty much the pedals that were missing from my board. Now, with the Elements, I have my core board, and won't be GASing for anything, for awhile. Of course, we let the bass player try out my Frazz Dazzler, so I probably won't be getting that back. Hmm...I better replace it. And the new Elements finish is oh so awesome, I better get that too. That will probably free up some space on my board since two Elements should replace a bunch of dirt pedals. I'll also need a new speaker for the RR so I don't destroy the original one with all the awesome fuzz and grind and dirt. Also, the tremolo on the amp is pretty bad ass...but not nearly as flexible as a Tremolessence...Ah crap, who am I kidding

Does your daughter actually play keyboard, or is she just turning knobs and making crazy sounds? Because that's what I would do.

Nice haul! I bet the elements paired up with that sweet amp sounds amazing. :thumb:

She mostly enjoys playing with the stuff already in there. I caught her laying down beats and "rapping" over it  She did find the Jump setting, and instantly tried playing the intro to it. Pretty impressive for a six year old :) All I have done so far..well, exactly the same thing! Minus the rapping...

So far it is awesome! Can't wait to try it out during practice this weekend. I was a little wary about turning it up too loud for fear of destroying the speaker in there. I think a replacement is in order soon, and keeping the original speaker for recording. We will see how it goes this weekend, it's not like we are playing any shows any time soon, so I probably don't need the extra volume yet.
