kaossilator 2?

Post by ifeellikeatourist »

I'm out of the loop as usual and just stumbled across this on MF: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/keyboards-midi/korg-kaossilator-2-touch-pad-synth-looper

Has anyone heard anything about this? Does it have many options that the first kaossilator doesn't, or is it just a new look?

In case you're wondering, I'm more interested in hearing your opinions than doing my own research...its not because I'm lazy, its just that I trust ILF more than any gear review/press release/etc--so don't yell at me, just feel honored.

I've been waiting for the new miniKP since they announced it at NAMM. I'm not sure that the miniKaossilator is much different, but I didn't really pay much attention to it.

its a little different. i think the main things are 2 loops side by side, sd card memory, the new text screens, external speaker, and newer updated/more sounds similar to the ikaossilator app.

Sounds worth it. I'd definitely like to try it out, I've wanted a kaossilator for a while now. Is it worth $150 compared to just getting the app?

I have the original Kaossilator, and the KP3, and the iKaossilator app. The Kaossilator app does pretty much everything that the actual hardware, and export is insanely easy. You can save loops and store actual phrases, as well as mix and match everything that you have stored. The app is much better IMO, and insanely better bang for the buck.

yea the app is pretty dope. i really like the 5 separate parts that u can save/mixnmatch. allows u to actually expand on a simple loop if u so desire. also the 4 bar max loop length is pretty nice, dunno why the new kaossilator2 only has a 2 bar limit. i make a lot of beats on the bathroom at work with it.

anyway, i recently read that while the ikaossilator app uses PCM sound samples for their synth sounds, the ko2 is actually going to be a modelling synth, with PCM drum sounds only. i haven't heard any of the sounds, but Korgs modelling synths are pretty tight (microkorg, electribe, radias, etc etc) they do a nice job w/ that so I would expect the ko2 to sound pretty damn good. the app also sounds really good to me tho. everything i make on it ends up sounding like a justice rip.
