Beginning my guitcab build

Post by seabeast »

So I'd been entertaining the idea of building a cab for a few months now. I was considering a 2x12, but after yesterday, I decided to get weird and do maybe a 2x12 and 1x15. So far all I've gotten is the wood (I found some absolutely gorgeous curly maple at my lumber store), and I have enough material for either. Bear in mind I'll be playing my twin reverb (or maybe my old quad reverb) through it, and that's 2x12s already. I figured if I ever upgrade to an amp that isn't a combo, I could still be super loud with the bigger cab. Is this a totally unnecessary move doing the extra 15" speaker?

I'll have no problem with building the thing (I've got a decent amount of woodworking experience), but it's the electronics stuff I'll need some guidance on. My band plays stoner/doom stuff (duh), so I'm thinking of going with celestion g12t100s (they'd be a good pair for my twin's jensens), but I'm still unsure about what 15 to look at. Any suggestions? You guys that do this regularly (I've never done a project quite like this before) have any tips/cautionary tales?

Also, my wood!
