Organizer LOTS of background noise

Post by ReinhardSA »

When I switch the pedal on it is very noisy, lots of background noise. Anyone else getting this?
My trem, phase etc are all deathly quiet in comparison.
Cheers

Not to step on Earthquakers toes as they may say otherwise, but what power supply are you using? Some of them interfere with digital effects.

A 9v DC, 2A PSU. It powers all my pedals, but with the organizer activated on its own, the background noise/Hiss is really noticeable .

Is that just the Organizer powered? Everything else unplugged?

I suspect it needs a well regulated supply, which a 9V DC PSU may not be... and at 2A I suspect a switching supply.

Yeh, I actually unplugged all the other pedals. This hiss is still loud enough to be heard with the pedal tone.

Organizers 001-302 shipped with a 2x volume boost at the output which can cause some white noise (even with all controls at zero). We've started reducing the gain so it's unity which has reduced the noise greatly at the expense of the added boost. If you want us to take a look or reduce the gain, send us an email.

my organizer has a lot of noise as well, if the mod is easy enough, can you just describe how to do it?

What # is yours? If it's an early one (up to #302) it involves changing 2 resistors and adding another. I could probably make an easy diagram to show how it's done. On another note, Organizers tend to not like one spot (or similar) power supplies, they introduce all kinds of artifacts.

Weird... I've got #163, use a 1Spot, and haven't noticed any noise or weird artifacts at all. Maybe it was already sent in (I acquired it from the b/s/t). :idk:

My Organizer is #900 something (I just put velcro on the bottom) and it makes a LOT of noise. Whether it's by itself or with other pedals, it has a lot of background noise. It also makes a VERYprominent true bypass click when activated or deactivated. I am using a BBE Supacharger, so it has it's own, isolated power supply too. It's a shame, because I love the other noises it makes, just not the white noise. Any fixes, or should I see if I can return it?

Organizers should not be so noisy they are unusable. They aren't dead quiet (and they never will be dead quiet while idling) but if you are getting so much hiss you can't use it, there are other issues at play, not just the organizer. Are any of you running it into a dirty amp? The ideal environment for an organizer is downstream from any gain or boost pedals, into a clean amp and being powered by a voodoo labs pp (or similar) power supply. Switch clicking is not normal either, if you are getting a lot of hiss with massive switch popping there is definitely something wrong. Anyone who feels they own an EQD that doesn't work correctly can feel free to send them in for repair by following the instructions here: http://www.earthquakerdevices.com/general-info/
