thefutureembrace thread!

Post by ohsojayadeva »

i know this has been brought up on the board a couple or three times (i searched again just to be sure) but never in much detail. i also know it can be a sensitive subject among pumpkins fans, of which there are a lot of here. i just put it on for the first time in months and... yeah, i still love it. especially the guitars. the super fuzzed out + stacked delays thing is a lifetime favorite of mine. that's especially obvious in the album outtake 'tilt' where the delays are hard panned.

i remember the night that A100 leaked... i was so scared to actually listen to it, and when i finally did put it on, the vocal harmony on the line "some might say my love devours you whole" made me so happy i could have laughed or cried or... something.

i loved the live show too... even with linda strawberry. i wish there were studio versions of some of the tracks they played live, "Bit 5" in particular was a standout.

i do remember quite a bit of excitement surrounding 'the confessions of billy corgan' leading up to the album's release, and being disappointed that it petered out after the tour. the record does feel intimate in a lot of the same ways that adore does, imho. the other first impression i remember, especially after hearing mina loy, was how it sounded so much more natural than the zwan album. not hatin' on zwan, not by a longshot, but TFE felt more like what BC sounded like when he just sat down and did what came naturally. ;)

have you heard tilt? i think it was an iTunes only thing, and i also recall it was on a target compilation around the time the album came out.

I always liked what I could hear of the album, again my town wasn't cool enough to have it....or maybe their are more Billy fans...idk

The first single "Walking shade" was amazing to me and is still my favorite today. I even ironically set it as the ringtone for one my past girlfriends. The only song that was hard to get into was Mina Loy. I mean I loved it at first but every time I listened to it again.... I just slowly tore away.

I think I'm going try and find some youtube song or something....

EDIT: holy shit, DIA is such a cool song!

i think i had a hard time with now and then and i'm ready. now and then took forever to grow on me, and eventually it was the guitar solo that had me sold. i'm ready didn't make a lot of sense until i saw it live, and after that i couldn't (and still can't) get enough. :thumb:
