Guyatone RTE-3000 // Space Echo ?

Post by tchen »

Anyone have experience with or know anything about this: http://www.barryrudolph.com/newtoys/toy ... etape.html

I've been on the hunt for an RE-201, and someone offered to trade me this RTE-3000 for a synth I have.

Would have to play with it to see how it is; a lot of the Space Echo sound is the preamp as much as the actual echo.

Assuming nothing goes wrong, the Guyatone seems decent - but you can find a tech to fix almost anything that goes wrong with any of the Space Echoes.

At a couple hundred hours per loop, and tape head lifespan measured in the obscene, I'd probably stake my bucks on a properly serviced Roland to live damn near forever.

I used to leave my 301 on for days at a time, not thinking about the heads - they never had issues except needing cleaning, and felt pads can be cleaned off enough to function without issue if new ones aren't available or you don't fab them yourself (such as happened in the early 90s when any parts were gold).

Looks like a neat device, but if you want a Space Echo, you won't be happy without a real one and all its quirks.

I have about a dozen echo units, but missed my old 301 badly as the years passed. There's a certain sound on any of the Rolands of the ugly green generation that nothing quite gets; I got a heck of a deal on a refurbed 150 a few months back and love it.

My pedalboard costs approximately 191 Metal Zones.

I'd say go for it if you think it sounds good... That delay is over a grand and those HS go for 300 - 400 all day... Try to play it first and see if you like it...
