writwrs angst

Post by metalmariachi »

I have several binders full of lyrics, song ideas, parts of verses etc. Not to mention countless bits and pieces written on scraps of paper.

A few years ago I started a project for a few songs on a short cd called “Los Gigolos; Senior Discount', it's now expanded to about 3 cds worth of material with working titles 'Wrong Side of the Bed' and 'Lost Innocence'.
It started out to be just fun songs, but I got angry and wrote what I was feeling so added the next title.
I also found I had a few love or loss of love songs that needed to come out.

Some of the lyrics just can't find music, and some just won't finish.
Then there's the music that can't find words plus one set of lyrics that works with 3 different melodys and tempos.

Today I was playing around with on a song that just won't come together and finally realized that it wants to be a Samba. Which of course doesn't work with any thing I've written so far.

On the plus side when ever the planets align correctly I get to work with a fantastic guitar player/ vocalist and a phenomenal drummer.

Just venting my frustration at not being able to get it all together, and finding out that some of what I want to do is beyond my playing abilities. Well it is making me learn bass chords.

I feel your pain.

It took me literally a year, start to finish, to write one of my songs. Lyrics are the kicker - I'm all about these really twisty melodies with lots of words, and I'm perfectionistic, and so it takes a while. The fastest I've ever written the lyrics to a song involved a week of work, 3 hours or so a night, yielding only a line or two or three each night.

im there too now......
ive got dozens of word and pages (crappy mac equivalent of word) files worth of material
i used to be able to write entire songs, really good ones too, in under an hour
some entirely in coffee shops in the time it took to make me a white mocha

i reccomend that no one ever get a full time job, it kills you :real sad:

with me it also sucks that im a decent guitarist, decent bassist
but horrendous drummer
.....
im kinda inspired though, right now
the weather in my head, the words you guys are relating and my never drive :yay:
ill try to have a quality song written within a week...uhh...soon...

I'm opposite. Being a perfectionist steals too much time that I want to spend playing around.
So opposite, but not really;
Creative channeling can be trained, I work fast and produce massive quantities of sounds and the ratio of horrible projects to awright projects is getting smaller. To me, that is.
Or maybe my idea of what sounds good is getting weaker?

Keeping that channel open for too long can taint the outcome, for me. It's like painting a sunset, but the sun has already set and the next one won't be the same because of pollution.
Then again, you might be painting big immovable objects? Is that what lyrics is?
Now I'm getting very confused with my ideas, I better go eat something.

I need a line that can sum up how different working styles are important.
